Peters & Peters Case Study

The background

Peters & Peters are specialist lawyers for heavyweight international disputes. Founded in 1938, it is the first, biggest and most experienced business crime team in London. Its Business Crime & Investigations team is widely considered a leader, having been praised by Chambers UK legal directory as the “outstanding financial crime practice, and one of the earliest firms to establish itself in this field.” It works closely with its Fraud & Commercial Disputes team, described in the Legal 500 directory as “London’s best civil fraud litigation boutique”. Clients from all over the world go to Peters & Peters in serious situations, where reputation, livelihood and liberty are at risk. Its international team of 70 experts, which speak 20 major languages, manages very large, complex domestic and multi-jurisdictional disputes.

The requirement

GSA Security & Risk (formerly BGS) has supported Peters & Peters and its clients with countless investigations, commercial disputes, and private prosecutions, including a major international dispute between a national oil company and an eastern European country. Peters & Peters wanted to put together an expert team of primarily ex-police officers to assist with a private prosecution. And while there are plenty of firms out there, none had the breadth of skills that GSA Security & Risk could produce at such short notice.

“We are sometimes asked to undertake a tender by a client”, says Nick Vamos, Head of Business Crime & Investigations at Peters & Peters, “but if you find a firm, like GSA Security & Risk, which you trust and enjoy working with, they become your go-to organisation. They offer a broad spectrum of investigative services and there are not many courses they don’t have a horse for.”

“Once we had provided our brief, the management team set out what would be delivered and the personnel who would be involved. This gave us huge confidence that the team would be of the highest quality, which offered the added benefit of not having to look elsewhere.”

The solution

GSA Security & Risk adds considerable value to complex litigation and arbitration. Our team undertakes complex investigations, utilising experts drawn from law enforcement who have investigated the most serious terrorist threats, organised crime, and fraudulent activity. Our investigative approach to cases delivers an in-depth understanding of the issues, establishes facts which may otherwise be missed, and points to areas where discovery should be sought.

Fraud and corruption has a corrosive effect on businesses and government, resulting in significant reputational and financial loss. It also exposes companies and individuals to the increased threat of criminal and civil actions through strengthened legislation in the UK and USA. We help organisations respond to threats swiftly and effectively.

“You can be a Jack of all trades and master of none”, continues Nick, “but that is simply not the case with GSA Security & Risk. They really are experts in every service they offer. But what sets them apart from most, aside from being good value for money, is their leadership and experience. The track record of CEO, Dave Wood, and Executive Director, Bob Quick, is unmatched, which instils a lot of confidence.”

The result

“When it comes to selecting external providers, we very much rely on internal recommendations”, explains Nick. “And because we have handled so many cases over the years, we have secured extremely experienced partners, and GSA Security & Risk is one of them. Their team is highly regarded throughout Peters & Peters, having helped us on countless occasions. We could not recommend them highly enough.
